Nathaniel's Enjoy Vijay finishes second in Gr.1 Deutsches Derby

Enjoy Vijay ran a mighty race to finish second in the Group 1 Deutsches Derby at Hamburg Racecourse yesterday, the second Derby performer by his exciting young sire Nathaniel.

Trained by Peter Schiergen for owner Gestut Ittlingen, this three-year-old colt took up the running two furlongs out and was just headed close home by Windstoss.

Enjoy Vijay has previously finished second in the Group 3 Bavarian Classic at Munich, a recognised trial for the Gr.1 Deutsches Derby.  Plus as a two-year-old he was third in the Group 3 Herzog von Ratibor-Rennen at Krefeld.  Bred by Gestut Fahrhof, Enjoy Vijay is the first foal of the Medicean mare Enjoy The Life.

The colt is another Stakes performer from Nathaniel's first-crop that also includes Group 1 Epsom Oaks winner Enable and Italian Derby second Back On Board

Also at the weekend another Nathaniel three-year-old, Chasedown, added more black-type to his form, when finishing third in the Listed Gran Premio D'Italia at Milan Racecourse.  Trained by Stefano Botti for owner/breeder Scuderia Effevi SRL this colt is out of Whipcla (Whipper ), from a family with significant Italian black-type, including Gr.1 winners Jakkalberry and Crackerjack King.

Not only did Newsells enjoy Stakes success with Nathaniel at the weekend but also the Newsells Park Stud bred and owned Ela's Ruby followed up her recent Listed victory by finishing third in the Group 2 Prix de Malleret at Saint-Cloud for trainer John Gosden.

By Raven's Pass, she is out of Elas Diamond (Danehill Dancer), a Stakes performing daughter of Ela Athena, who was placed in an impressive seven Group 1 races, and is the dam of the Group 2 Doncaster Cup winner Pallasator.
